Gift Maps
Personal maps built around a person’s connections to places. This example brings together the geographical world of a scholar’s research.
Commission a personal map for a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or milestone in an organisation’s life.
An example — A map of a scholar’s places
The worlds we inhabit do not always appear on Google Maps. To thank Prof. Eyal Ben-Eliyahu for five years of doctoral supervision, I mapped the hundreds of places mentioned in his research.
The map gives geographical form to a body of scholarship: the relative size of countries and the relief of regions reflect how often they appear. Jerusalem and the Land of Israel take centre stage, alongside Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and other places that populate his work.
A personal gift built from research data—a portrait of an intellectual journey that continues to expand.
View full mapThis map shows which parts of the world feature most prominently in Eyal Ben-Eliyahu’s published scholarship. Place names and geographical subjects were identified in his books and other publications, assigned numerical values, and grouped by region. The geographical shapes were then redrawn to make the resulting pattern visible. It is a map of research emphasis, not a conventional map of actual distances or land areas.
